Karen Hurst

Karen Hurst is a visual artist who loves expressing herself through vibrant colour and flowing brushstrokes. Her appreciation of nature and the beauty around us is very dear to her. She strives to express this in her work.

Karen has enjoyed creating art since her early years growing up in Vernon, British Columbia. After obtaining a Degree in both Fine Arts and Education, she worked as a teacher and then as a graphic designer in Calgary, Alberta. In the past three years she has embarked on new adventures on the East Coast in Nova Scotia and continues her graphic design work as well as painting. Her home is now just outside the town of Antigonish surrounded by the nature she loves and giving her access to endless new horizons to inspire her future canvasses.

Karen particularly focuses on oil painting. She chooses to colourfully capture the beauty and delicate nature of flowers in most of her work, but has captured many other subjects as well drawing from the different landscapes around us. Some of her paintings are relatively large in scale and often give an abstracted and magnified view of flowers reminiscent of the work of Georgia O’Keeffe.

Please enjoy your visual journey through her artwork as you see the natural world around you through this artist’s eyes.
