Marie Murakami

Former fashion designer in the UK and Canada, Marie Murakami designed wedding and evening gowns for many years and owned a store in Truro selling and designing gowns and day wear. Straight from college, she apprenticed with Maureen Rose, designer to Her Majesty the Queen of England for two years. While working there, she had the privilege of sewing the Queen’s garments.

Marie’s favourite part of the whole process of fashion design was always the drawing, so eventually her heart gave in and she followed her desire to put paint to paper.

Hailing from the UK, Marie Murikami always had a deep connection with everything fantasy-based. This and the way the body moves, through dance, gradually formed into her art work. Thus, through a culmination of dance, body form, the fantasy world, and fashion design, her art was born.

Marie Murakami’s favourite media is watercolour pencil, a pencil crayon which, when wet, looks like watercolour paint. She also enjoys painting with ink which has a similar look to watercolour paint and felt pen.
