Mary Delorey

Mary Delorey was born in the small Acadian Village of Larry’s River, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. Halifax has been her home for the past forty years, through recently, she has returned to her birthplace and restored her 160 year old family homestead, which is beautifully situated by the river’s edge. She finds this an ideal source of inspiration and solace.

For as long as she can remember, she has been fascinated by the beautiful works of oil painters. In 1991, a dear artist friend, who painted with Peggy’s Cove artist DeGarthe, suggested that she should take up the craft. This was the beginning of her journey as an artist. To help things along, Mary’s friend gave her a wooden painting case, which Mary still uses today.

Mary Delorey started painting in Halifax with artist Pat Burnstall. She has attended daytime classes at various Halifax venues and has also participated in several private sessions with other local artists. As well, she continues to independently work at perfecting her art. In 2005, Mary retired from the Provence of Nova Scotia Department of Finance and was then able to dedicate more of her time to her art studies and passion of oil painting.
