Administrative Arts Coordinator- Antigonish Culture Alive (ACA)

End date: March 31, 2025 (with a two-year contract to commence April 1, 2025)
Compensation: $22/hour

Location: Remote - within Antigonish County
Antigonish Culture Alive (ACA), is seeking a part-time Administrative Arts Coordinator. The Coordinator will perform a variety of administrative and communication tasks to engage the public with local arts and culture events and promote Antigonish as a cultural hub within the province of Nova Scotia. ACA’s ideal candidate will have familiarity with the arts community in Antigonish, enthusiasm for arts making and participatory art, and strong skills in organizing art programming, determined in consultation with the ACA board.
The Arts Coordinator is expected to forge relationships with local artists, arts organizations, and venues to host and sponsor arts and culture events which promote participation, professional development, and excitement for visual, performance, and cultural arts in Antigonish/Nalikitquniejk. An asset to this position will be the candidate’s ability to actively build and continue positive relationships with individual partners and community stakeholders. Communications with partners and the board will include maintaining ongoing in-person, phone, and email conversations.
The position of Arts Coordinator will report directly to ACA’s board of directors.
Responsibilities:

Coordinate and maintain a monthly Arts Calendar of upcoming events (on the ACA website and Facebook page) by actively reaching out to local artists, organizations, and venues for event information.

Connect with the local and regional tourism representatives to share the above information and ensure that the arts are being considered in planning strategies for the region.

Serve as the main ACA contact for artists, arts organizations, and arts venues, and facilitate connections between these groups/individuals.

Maintain an up-to-date online database (ACA website) of all local artists, venues, and events in the area.

Serve as the Town of Antigonish and Antigonish County’s main contact for queries and coordination of arts and culture events, including the annual Town of Antigonish mural competition.

Assist with further exhibition and presentation projects.

Seek funding and sponsorship for annual art-after dark festival, Antigonight.

Support drafting the Heritage Canada Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage grant, as well as the Municipality and Town grants, in conjunction with board volunteers.

Coordinate hiring artists to teach art workshops and other programming for and by artists

Develop partnerships with local stakeholders to support Antigonight’s funding, venue, and programming needs.
Requirements:

Excellent communication skills in writing and in-person, to represent ACA confidently.

Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills across numerous digital platforms (Microsoft, Google, or Adobe Suites).

Comfortable and skilled in handling queries from the public, stakeholders, and partnered organizations.

Well-organized and able to work within deadlines on a self-directed schedule.

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding queries, contracts, and hiring processes with the board.

Experience and confidence in web content management systems (e.g., Wix) and social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Meta Business Suite).

Working knowledge of Google apps (e.g., Gmail, Google Drive).

Experience with design software (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Canva).

Possess a phone and laptop with reliable access to the internet (from home or a public network location [ie. library]).

Project management and event organization skills are an asset.
Hours and Compensation:
This part-time position offers 20 hours a week, with a wage of $22 an hour. Hours will be flexible with the position being remote (within Antigonish County). An initial renewable contract is offered for 21 weeks from November 4, 2024 - March 31, 2025. Pending funding, a contract will be offered on an annual basis, renewing each April.
If interested, the candidate may also take on the role of coordinating the Antigonight:Art After Dark Festival. This work would add an additional 12 hours a week starting in May and ending just after festival time mid-September.
